Why does my new domain redirect to a "l.ink" URL?

Wondering why your new .com domain is redirecting to a different URL? We'll explain why, and show you how you can take advantage of the free Link In Bio hosting that's included with your domain purchase. You can also upgrade the plan, or cancel it at any time (refer to step 3) if you decide to get a different web hosting plan.

How does it work?

When you register a new .com domain, you'll get set up with our free Link In Bio URL forwarding service. This will make it so your domain is automatically redirected to "yourdomain-com.l.ink", and if you navigate to your site you will see the default landing page we've set up for you.

This page allows you to add your own logo or branding, and you can also set up links to external sites such as your social media pages. All for free! Here's how.

How to use the Link In Bio hosting

1
Log in. You should arrive at the Domain Management screen. If you're already logged in, click on ACCOUNT in the top-right corner and select "Domain Management" from the list.

2
Locate your domain. To the right of the domain is a set of icons. Click on the first icon, under the "WEBSITE" column.

3
You'll be taken to the "Link In Bio" hosting page for your domain. Here, you can upgrade your Link In Bio plan, or you can cancel the hosting plan if you want to use a different one instead.

Note that upgrading your plan will make it so your Link In Bio website resolves on your actual "root" domain name, instead of forwarding to the "l.ink" URL.
4
To open the editor so you can customize your site, click on the "Launch Editor" button towards the top of the hosting page.

You'll be taken to the editor where you can change how your site appears. Below we have outlined some of the features you have access to and how they work. For more detailed information, refer to our main guide for Link In Bio hosting.

  1. Edit Social Links: This allows you to add your social media links, which will appear at the bottom of the landing page once added.
  2. Edit Appearance: Here you can change the appearance of your site, including the background color and the color/appearance of the links you add to the site.
  3. Analytics Tracking: You can add tracking codes from services that provide analytics such as Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel ID, and more.
  4. Other Settings: You can toggle other settings on the site, such as whether it contains sensitive content, or whether visitors can sign up for your mailing list.
  5. Profile: This is where you can set your landing page image that appears at the top of your website. You can also change the title of the site and the bio that appears below it!
  6. Links: In this section you can add the links to any external URLs of your choosing. You can also hide existing links, delete or edit links, change the animation of your links, or even schedule them to appear at certain designated times. For more detailed information on how to get the most out of these options, refer to our main guide on how to use Link in Bio Hosting.

That's the gist of it! Feel free to use our free Link In Bio hosting for as long as you want. If you ever need to cancel the service so you can replace it with a different Porkbun hosting plan (or hosting from another provider), refer to step 3 of this guide to see how.
