How to Use Your Free AI-Built Draft Website (Cloud for WordPress)

Did you know your new domain may come with a free website already built for it? When you register a domain with Porkbun, our AI website builder can generate a complete WordPress website for your domain: a real site with pages, images, and copy, ready for you to edit. We call it your draft website, and it's completely free until you decide to launch it. You can select one of the following options to skip to the respective section of the guide:

What Is a Free Draft Website?

A draft website is a real WordPress website, hosted on Porkbun's Cloud for WordPress, that our AI website builder designs for your domain automatically. Until you launch it, your draft stays private and free:

  • Visitors to your domain see a clean coming-soon page, never your unfinished draft.
  • Search engines are asked not to index it.
  • There's no charge and no expiration while you're working on it.
  • It never gets in the way: you can choose a different hosting product for your domain at any time.

If you saw a website preview right after registering your domain, clicking Claim My Free Site is what created your draft. You can also find the preview waiting on your domain's hosting page any time.

How to View and Edit Your Draft Website

Log in. You should arrive at the Domain Management screen. If you're already logged in, click on ACCOUNT in the top-right corner and select Domain Management.

Locate your domain and click the Details button to the far right of the domain name, then select Web Hosting. You'll land on your draft website page, with a live preview of your site's design at the top.

Click the pink View and Edit My Site button under the preview. Your website opens in the WordPress editor in a new tab, already logged in, with your design loaded.
Change anything you like: text, images, pages, menus, colors. Your edits save to the draft, and the world still only sees the coming-soon page.

How to Change Your Website's Design

Our AI builder guesses what your website is about from your domain name, and sometimes it guesses wrong (we're only pig-shaped, after all). If the design misses the mark:

On your draft website page, scroll to the Not Quite Right? section.

If we've suggested alternate directions for your domain, click one to use it, or type your own description of what your website is really about.

Click Redesign My Site. WordPress opens with the full design workflow and your description already filled in, so you can pick the structure, style, and tone before anything changes.
Heads up: completing the design workflow replaces your draft's current pages, so finish any edits you want to keep first.

How to Launch Your Website

Ready to make it official? Launching lifts the coming-soon page so the whole world can see your website at your domain.

On your draft website page, click Choose Your Plan.

Pick the Cloud for WordPress plan that fits you. Your website goes live immediately with a free 15-day trial, and everything you built in the draft comes with it.
Brand new websites can take a few minutes to receive their SSL certificate. If your browser shows a security warning right after launch, it's safe to wait a few minutes and refresh.

Good to Know

  • Your draft is tied to your domain, not to a bill: there's nothing to cancel and nothing charged unless you launch.
  • Prefer a different platform? Click Explore Hosting Plans at the bottom of your draft website page to see every hosting product we offer, from simple static hosting to full cPanel.
  • Drafts that sit completely untouched for around 90 days may be cleaned up automatically. Opening your draft website page is enough to keep yours active.
