How to use your free draft website (Cloud for WordPress)
When you register a domain with Porkbun, we may show you a preview of a website we've already designed for it. If you like what you see, you can claim it as a free draft website running on Cloud for WordPress. This article covers how the draft works, how to edit it, and how to take it live.
What is a draft website?
A draft website is a real WordPress site we set up for your domain, prefilled with the design from your preview. It's free, and it stays private:
- Visitors to your domain see a clean coming-soon page, not your draft.
- Search engines are asked not to index it.
- It doesn't expire while you're working on it, and there's no charge until you decide to launch.
- It doesn't block you from choosing a different hosting product for your domain at any time.
How to view and edit your draft
- Log in to your Porkbun account and go to Domain Management.
- Next to your domain, open the Web Hosting option. You'll land on your draft website page.
- Click View and Edit My Site. This opens the WordPress editor in a new tab, already logged in, with your design loaded. Change anything you like: text, images, pages, colors.
Not happy with the design?
If we guessed wrong about what your website is for, scroll to the Not Quite Right? section on your draft website page. Describe what your site is really about, then click Redesign My Site. WordPress opens with the full design workflow and your description already filled in, so you can pick the structure, style, and tone before anything changes. Heads up: completing the design workflow replaces your draft's current pages.
How to launch your website
- On your draft website page, click Choose Your Plan.
- Pick the Cloud for WordPress plan that fits. Your site goes live with a free 15-day trial, and everything you've built in the draft comes with it.
- Launching lifts the coming-soon page so the world sees your website.
Brand new sites can take a few minutes to receive their SSL certificate. If your browser shows a security warning right after launch, wait a few minutes and refresh.
Good to know
- Your draft is tied to your domain. If you'd rather use a different hosting product, just choose it from the hosting page; the draft steps aside.
- Drafts that sit completely untouched for around 90 days may be cleaned up automatically. Opening your draft website page is enough to keep it active.
