How to secure your account with a physical security key using Web Authentication (WebAuthn)

Porkbun supports using a physical security key as a 2FA option for logging into your account. WebAuthn is a new W3C global standard for secure authentication on the web, supported by all leading browsers and platforms.

Connecting your physical security key

Log in to your Porkbun account. After logging in, click on ACCOUNT in the top-right corner and select "Settings / Billing" from the list.

On the Account Settings and Billing page, scroll all the way down to the "Account Security Settings" section, then locate the "2FA - Security Key" option. Click on the "Register a Key" button.

You'll see a browser pop-up that warns you to ensure your account information is valid and up to date. If you're ready to move forward, click "OK".

You will be prompted to enter a name for the security key. Enter something memorable and click "OK" to continue.

You will receive a prompt from your browser to insert your security key.

Insert your security key into your computer's USB port, and then press your finger to the metal contact.

Upon successful authentication of the key, you will be given backup codes you can use to restore your account should your key be lost or damaged. Please store these somewhere safe!

That's it! If you navigate back to the "Settings / Billing" page on your account, you'll see your newly added security key under "Current Keys". You can add additional keys as a backup if desired, or you can delete any of the keys you've added previously.

Congratulations! You have secured your account using a physical security key. You will now be prompted to insert the key whenever you log in to Porkbun.

Logging in to Porkbun with your security key

Now that you've paired a security key to your account, you will be required to use it whenever you log in to Porkbun. The login process is very similar to the pairing process.

Navigate to the Porkbun account login page. Enter your username and password normally and click "Login".

You'll receive a prompt from your browser to insert your security key.

Insert your security key into your computer's USB port and press your finger to the metal contact.

That's it! You should now be logged in to Porkbun. You can use the same security key to log in to multiple accounts with different providers, making this a great way to secure your personal data.
