How to Connect a Domain to Carrd.co

If you've set up a website through Carrd.co and would like to connect it to your custom domain registered on Porkbun, you're in the right place! Before you do make any changes on your Porkbun account, the first step will be to add your custom domain to Carrd.co by following their guide.

When you get to the step on Carrd's guide that provides you with some DNS records to add to your domain, that's when you can come back to this guide and get everything set up.

1
Log in to your Porkbun account and you should arrive at the Domain Management screen. If you're already logged in, click on ACCOUNT in the top-right corner and select "Domain Management" from the dropdown menu.
2
Locate the domain you're connecting to Carrd.co. Click on the "Details" button to open the domain's details menu, then click on the edit icon next to "DNS Records".
3
A menu will appear that displays all of the DNS records currently applied to your domain. Click on "Add record" on the upper-right corner of the menu.
4
Another menu will appear that lets you add new DNS records. You'll need to add the DNS records that were provided to you by Carrd when you entered your domain name during the publishing steps outlined in their guide.
Carrd typically provides one A record, and one CNAME record. Enter the A record information according to Carrd's instructions, then click "Add". Do the same for the CNAME record. They should look something like this (with your own domain name, rather than "domain.example"):

Note

If you get any errors stating that a "record with that host already exists", you'll probably need to delete a few existing DNS records on your domain first. Check out this guide for more information.

4
Once you've added the two records, you can click the "Back" button at the top of the menu to return to your domain's current list of records. You can also close the menu entirely and then open the DNS records back up in the same way you did on step 2.
You should see both of the DNS records you added to point the domain to Carrd.
5
That's about it! You can now go back to Carrd and finish publishing the site. Make sure that you still see your domain name as the custom domain that's being published to.

Once everything has been set up properly and you've published the site, it should come online with a secure connection within the next 24 hours (typically sooner than that). If you try to visit your website while it's still initializing, you may see an error screen from Cloudflare:

That error most likely means everything was done correctly, but that Carrd hasn't finished publishing the site quite yet. If you still see this screen (or any other issues with the domain) after 24 hours, feel free to reach out to our support team for further assistance.
