How to log in to your Wordpress Dashboard in cPanel

There are a couple of ways to access your WordPress admin dashboard when you've set it up through our cPanel hosting. By default on cPanel hosting we do not allow logging in via the standard WordPress login page (wp-login.php or wp-admin.php) due to the potential security issues involved with leaving that URL exposed.

In this guide we will show you how to log in to the WordPress admin panel through cPanel directly. We'll also show you how to install a neat plugin called WPS Hide Login that allows you to create your own URL that you can use for quicker access later. Let's get started!

How to log in to WordPress through cPanel

If you haven't done so already, you'll need to ensure you've set up your cPanel hosting, and that you've installed a WordPress site via Softaculous within cPanel. Once that's done, you're ready for the next steps.

1
Log in. You should arrive at the Domain Management screen. If you're already logged in, click on ACCOUNT in the top-right corner and select Domain Management.

2
Locate the domain with cPanel hosting that you're accessing. To the right of the domain name is a row of icons. Click on the "cPanel" icon, under the WEBSITE column.

3
You'll be taken to the "Shared cPanel Hosting" page for your domain. Click on the "Launch cPanel" button.

4
A new tab will open and display the main menu for cPanel. Click on the "WordPress Manager by Softaculous" link.

5
On the Softaculous page that you're taken to, you will see the WordPress site you configured. If you haven't set one up yet, this guide will show you how.
Click on the "Login" button.

That's it! Another new tab will open and you'll be logged in to the WordPress admin panel where you can begin working on your site.

If you want to set up a quicker way of accessing WordPress so you don't have to log in through cPanel every time, read on to the next section.

How to configure an alternative URL for WordPress Login

If you really miss being able to log in from a URL, we recommend using a plugin such as WPS Hide Login. Here's how to get that plugin installed:

1
While logged in to your WordPress admin panel, locate and hover over the "Plugins" setting in the side menu. In the menu that appears, click "Add Plugin" to be redirected to the Plugins page.

2
In the search bar on the top right, enter "WPS Hide Login". When you see the "WPS Hide Login" plugin show up in the search results, click "Install Now".

3
The plugin will be installed. Once that's finished, click on the "Activate" button.

4
You'll be taken to the main Plugins menu where you can see that WPS Hide Login is installed and activated. Now you can configure the plugin for any alternative URL you want.
In the admin panel side menu, hover over "Settings", and then click on "WPS Hide Login".

5
This will take you to the bottom of the main Settings page. You'll see a section labeled "WPS Hide Login". In this section, you can enter the URL you want to be able to use to log in directly in the future.
In this example, we'll use "porky-login" as the login URL. Feel free to make yours whatever you want! Once you've entered your desired login URL, click on the "Save Changes" button.

Success! In the future, whenever you want to log in directly to WordPress without having to go through cPanel first, you can just navigate to the URL you created, which will take you to the default WordPress login page. Give it a try by logging out of WordPress, then opening a new tab and entering the URL you configured.

Enter in your WordPress username and password. Select the blue "Login" button and you should be logged back into your WordPress Dashboard.

Now go forth and Press those Words!

⚠️️  Note

We strongly suggest not making your alternative URL "wp-admin" or "wp-login" with the WPS Hide Login plugin. This can lead to making your website vulnerable and security issues. Think of something unique instead!
