How to use the Domain Details area

If you need to take any advanced actions on one of your domains, you’ll do so in the Details area of Domain Management. This area is used for functions such as updating DNS records, or a domain's contact information.  Domain Details can be accessed by clicking the "Details" button to the far right of the domain:

Not sure what all of this means? No problem! In this guide, we'll break down each feature of the Details area and link to our other Knowledge Base articles related to the feature.

  • REGISTRY CREATE DATE/REGISTRY EXPIRE DATE: Here you can view the exact time and date that your domain was registered, as well as the current expiration date. Please note that this information is pulled in real-time from the registry. If the domain has expired, your expiration date may be incorrect due to an industry practice known as the Auto-Renew Grace Period. The expiration date listed above the Details area should be considered the definitive expiration date, not the date listed in this area.
  • STATUSES: EPP status codes indicate the status of a domain name registration. ICANN has a handy webpage listing the possible statuses and how they affect your domain.
  • RENEWAL PRICE: This shows the current yearly renewal price for your domain. You can also view our pricing for registration, renewal, and transfer on all supported domains here.
  • CONTACTS: This setting allows you to control the contact details for the particular domain you're viewing. It's important to keep your domain contact info valid and up-to-date. Check out our guide on editing your domain/account contact details for more info.
  • NAMESERVERS: If you need to change DNS nameservers to point to your web host or are using your own custom nameservers, you can follow this guide for step-by-step instructions on how to change your nameservers in the domain Details area. Additionally, if you want to switch to Porkbun’s nameservers and host your DNS with us, check out this guide: How to switch to Porkbun's Nameservers.
  • GLUE RECORDS: If you are hosting your own custom nameservers and want to use them with your Porkbun domain, you can do so with glue records. Review our guide on creating glue records and custom nameservers for more information.
  • DNS RECORDS: If you're using Porkbun's DNS nameservers, the "DNS Records" menu is where you'll go to manage all of the records related to your domain. To understand more about what DNS records are, review our "What is DNS?" guide. For general information on editing your domain's DNS records, check out this guide to get familiarized. We also have plenty of guides for specific hosting providers if you're trying to connect your domain to a third-party host.
  • SSL: SSL certificates enable your website to have a secure connection. Porkbun offers a free SSL certificate for any domain registered with us! If your SSL certificate hasn't been generated yet, clicking on this option in the Details menu will take you to a page that lets you know your certificate is being generated. Check out our guide on how to use your free SSL certificate for more information.
  • PARK DOMAIN: If you want to reset your domain to our default DNS records and point it at our parking page, the PARK DOMAIN feature in the domain Details area has you covered. Check out this guide we created for more info: How to reset DNS and park your domain.
  • URL FORWARDING: We offer free URL forwarding for any domains registered with us. To learn how to set that up so you can redirect your domain to a different URL, check out our guide on configuring URL forwarding.
  • API ACCESS: Here you can enable API access for the specific domain you're editing. This is useful if you want to leverage our API to manage your domain, or if you are trying to set up dynamic DNS (DDNS) for self-hosting.
  • REGISTRAR TRANSFER: Need to transfer a domain out of Porkbun to another registrar? After unlocking the domain, the new registrar will need an authorization code which you can generate with this setting. Check out our guide on how to transfer out of Porkbun for more info: How to transfer a domain from Porkbun to another registrar.
  • ACCOUNT TRANSFER: This feature allows you to "push" or transfer a domain from your account to a different Porkbun account. This is useful for moving domains into a subaccount or a different account of yours, or even gifting a domain to a friend! Check out our guide on how to push a domain to another Porkbun account for more instructions.
  • REGISTRY DNSSEC: This setting allows you to manage the DNSSEC record for your domain. If you're using third-party DNS nameservers on the domain, use this option to manage your DNSSEC record directly.
  • PORKBUN DNSSEC: If you are using Porkbun's default nameservers on your domain, this is the setting you'll want to use to enable DNSSEC. Not sure what DNSSEC is or if you should enable it? Check out our guide on enabling DNSSEC for more information.
  • EMAIL HOSTING: This option will take you to the "Email Hosting and Forwarding" page for your domain, the same page you can locate by clicking on the envelope "Email" icon to the right of your domain name. On that page, you can set up email hosting or configure free email forwarding to create a professional business email tied to your domain.
  • WEB HOSTING: This option allows you to manage your existing web hosting plan with Porkbun, or if you don't have one, will take you to the page where you can choose a new hosting plan for your domain. If you want to learn more about the web hosting plans we offer, check out the available options here.
  • DELETE DOMAIN: If you want to delete your domain (or "external domain") for whatever reason, this option will allow you to do so. Review our guide on how to delete domains for more info on what you can expect.
  • DEJIGAMAFLIPPER: Sometimes, you just got to put your domain down, dejigamaflip it, and reverse it.
  • MARKET: This option allows you to list your domain for sale on our Marketplace, or put the domain up for auction. If you already have your domain listed for sale/auction, clicking this setting will let you manage the existing listing and make any necessary changes.
  • AFTERNIC SETTINGS: This section allows you to set Afternic settings that affect the data we put into the Afternic formatted CSV file that you can download from the "Bulk Actions" menu.

That's it! You can review more information about using your Domain Management page here. Feel free to get in touch with our support team if you have any questions or concerns.
